With enough interested people you can form a battle group and even get in on playtesting if you want. Why should you be a Ranger? Well, one of the reasons is purely selfish - you teach people to play your favorite games and "grow your own" opponents. I don't know if I'll review the book when I get it Monday, as I feel I (obviously) have a vested interest in GPD. There's also an extensive "Supplemental File" posted at that contains a whole bunch more stuff not in the book. Since I live in a city where the gaming store's motto seems to be "If it ain't Warhammer or Pokemon, we ain't carrying it", I have to wait until UPS gets on the ball and delivers my copy. I've heard some preliminary reports from the book, and people seem to be enjoying it.
ADB also has a great BBS, which has a growing Prime Directive section, on which fans are encouraged to give input and help direct the future of the product line! GURPS Klingons, GURPS Romulans, GURPS Feline Empires (Kzinti, Lyran, WYN), Module Prime Alpha, a feature with fiction, adventures, deck plans, etc. So, when the "other" group of Star Trek RPG players are converting their characters to YET ANOTHER RPG system so they can use the new material coming out, GPD players will be happily enjoying new sourcebooks.ĪDB also has a large list of planned products to follow up the GURPS Prime Directive core rulebook.
The license has been in place for a while, and has no expiration or limit on the number of products that can be printed.
Want to be the best of the best, a Prime Team? There are still rules for that.Īnd while some other companies, such as Decipher, will have to attempt to renew their Star Trek license in about two years (and the license usually then goes to the next company in line), ADB will still have their license. What to be Orion pirates, trading slave girls and stealing cargo freighters. Want your players to be a group of fighter pilots? Sure. If you want to be the bridge crew of a Federation Battlecruiser (as pictured on the cover), you can do that. YES! You can play things other than Prime Teams. I was amazed at the ability of the GURPS system to still function as I pulled things like the hex-based combat out of the system. If he wants to slow them to a crawl with precise physics, he can do that. If the GM wants to speed things up, he can. I actually ran a GURPS WWII campaign last night and was able to capture a cinematic, "Saving Private Ryan" feel. The thing I liked most about the Prime Directive rules is that it is merely "Powered By GURPS." That means ADB has taken the core of the GURPS rules and molded them to fit the Prime Directive feel.
